Who can apply for the Nomad Residence Permit in Malta?

In order to be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa Malta Permit, applicants must satisfy all the following criteria:

Be a third-country national; and

Prove that they can work remotely; and

Earn at least EUR 2,700 per month, gross of tax.

What type of employment or freelance work is acceptable to apply for the Nomad Residence Permit in Malta?

In terms of the type of employment, freelance work, or consultancy, the applicant’s position must also fall under any of the following 3 categories:

Have a work contract with an employer outside of Malta; or

Be a partner or shareholder in a company registered outside of Malta, and who conducts business for this company; or

Be a freelancer or consultant offering services to clients who are based outside of Malta on a contractual basis.

What process applies and what documents are required to apply for the Malta Nomad Residence Permit?

In terms of process, the same standards as applying for a visa or similar permits apply, whilst applicants must also:

hold a valid travel document;

have health insurance covering all risks in Malta;

hold of a valid property rental or purchase agreement; and

pass a background verification check.

How long does the application process for the Malta Nomad Residence Permit take?

Once your application is submitted to the Residency Malta Agency, a decision will be communicated within 30 days.
